Jack and Curtis head to Fat Maybelle's. It's an uninviting, rundown bar. The only windows face 289th street. There's a heavyset female bartender, presumably the eponymous Maybelle, a piano, a door marked "Private", and Jack discovers a back door in the ally behind the joint. The back door is locked, and Maybelle isn't letting anyone through the "Private" door. They leave.
