The country of Charmac, located at the southernmost tip of the Windy Isle, is a land of frozen majesty and enduring resilience. Ruled by the high elf Emperor Eldarion Faelivrin, who governs from the ancient city of Simbelmynë, it is a realm where beauty and austerity intertwine. Simbelmynë, perched on a plateau near the banks of the Amages River, is both a fortress and a garden, a testament to the elves' dedication to thriving even in the harshest climates.

Geography and Climate

Charmac is predominantly a frozen tundra, where temperatures rarely rise above freezing except during a brief summer thaw. Snow blankets the land for most of the year, glinting under the pale sunlight. Despite these harsh conditions, the elves of Charmac have mastered the art of nurturing hardy flora. Instead of the traditional elms and poplars found in more temperate elven lands, they cultivate towering pine trees and ancient sequoias, which serve as both resources and sacred symbols of endurance.

The country's natural barrier, the Pas Woka Mountains, stretches across the northern border, effectively isolating Charmac from the rest of the Windy Isle. These jagged peaks are nearly impassable save for a few treacherous paths. The Amages River carves its way through the range, providing the only reliable route for trade and communication with neighboring regions.

Waystations and Roads

Charmac's most remarkable infrastructure is its network of waystations, spaced approximately 30 miles apart along a meticulously maintained cobblestone road that traces the country's perimeter. These waystations are havens for travelers and caravans braving the cold. Each station is equipped with a central hearth, food stores, and a signal tower to alert nearby stations in case of emergencies. The road itself is a marvel, kept clear of snow and ice through an enchantment that warms its surface, ensuring year-round accessibility.

These waystations provide solace, travel news and a place for trade and replenishment for travelers in Charmac. They tend to be run by no-nonsense types of people who see their vocation as important, not just for the travelers, but to keep the nation abreast of the news that comes from outsiders.

The High Elf Emperor and Simbelmynë

Emperor Eldarion Faelivrin is a figure of wisdom and quiet strength, embodying the spirit of his people. His rule emphasizes harmony with the natural world, even in such a forbidding environment. Simbelmynë, his seat of power, is both the political and spiritual heart of Charmac. The city's architecture seamlessly blends into the icy landscape, with spires that resemble frost-kissed trees and aqueducts carrying melted glacial water.

At the center of Simbelmynë stands the Crystal Citadel, where Eldarion holds court. The citadel's translucent walls shimmer with refracted light, serving as a symbol of clarity and resilience. Surrounding the citadel are vast groves of sequoias, painstakingly cultivated over centuries, which form a sacred forest known as the Everwood Sanctum.

Life in Charmac

The elves of Charmac are a hardy people, deeply connected to the rhythms of their land. They are skilled foresters, crafters, and protectors of the fragile ecosystem they call home. Though their lives are shaped by the tundra's challenges, they find joy in the small miracles of survival: the return of migrating animals, the thawing of rivers, and the enduring beauty of their sequoias.

Weather

The high winds that accost The Windy Isle flows through Olm and through the Pas Woka Mountain Range, picking up the cold air and flowing down into Charmac. There are temperate forests in Charmac that can be quite thick. The weather causes wintery storms to come up quickly and most of the shoreline of Charmac is frozen or near frozen most of the year. The Amages River freezes during the Autumn and thaws in Spring. During the Spring thaw, travel from Woka's Fist down to the sea is not recommended as fast-moving ice flows tear through the canyons.

Charmac remains a land of quiet strength, where the icy winds carry ancient songs, and every tree tells a story of resilience. It is a testament to the will of its people, who thrive where others might falter, ever guided by the wisdom of their emperor and the enduring spirit of their frozen homeland.
