Father Quinn has a chat with Li Wen-cheng, agreeing to leave the Seven Cryptical Books of Hsan with the group so they can perform the sealing ritual that seems to be needed at the other sites. He advises Li Wen-cheng to be wary of Anthony Chang, then takes the Necronomicon and departs for the Order of the Sword of St. Jerome.
Li Wen-cheng and Anthony Chang have a chat with Jack Brady about Australia. Jack says that Darwin is hot, moist, and not as built up as Shanghai.
Over the next week, Lloyd Gribble and Charles St. Dennis travel together from London to Shanghai to collect Elise's things. There, they meet up with Li Wen-cheng and also meet Chun Li, Jack Falcon's adopted sister. They discuss the past cases over the time it takes Charles to clear up his business with Elise's estate. Also during this time, civil unrest increases in Shanghai.
On May 29, 1925, Lloyd, Charles, and Chun Li board a steamer bound for Darwin, Australia, while Li Wen-cheng hops a train heading west to return to Geneva.
